The background behind the scene

What drives successful environmental outcomes?

People who believe in dedicating time and energy to ethically undertake the right type of projects, even though the route may at times not be quite as easy, knowing the outcomes are smarter than the trials and ultimately worth the drive to attain the quality end result. Add to this a structured understanding of the building or landscape intended to be transformed prior to commencement. A healthy realistic timescale and of course a realistic budget. The midpoint change in a scheme to a cheaper or lessor performing product, or the mixing of poor choice materials, which will have needed to work in harmony with each other, will often more than not, complicate the workable outcome, thus undermining the inspiring initiated stages of the development.

Do not think you can just build as you go, prepare, understand the potential risk points and mitigate through good design and by choosing the right Architect or Designer, specifically knowledge up for your type of scheme. Consider the environment. You  may not be able to achieve everything you desire within the budget, so consider how you may either stage the works or design a section specifically with carbon reduction in mind. Remember every person taking a limited course of action, to better the places and world we want to live in, gives significant combined progression. No one person can be expected to take on the world and carry the heavy burden of the realities we all face ahead of us. You can immediately change your mindsets and values, with a process of "a little more good more often". Add this to your daily protocol and don't think it all comes down to money, many larger projects do, but for some schemes such as wild meadowing or even just leaving a scruffy green area to go wild, are cheaper, environmentally friendly options.

It is very hard to identify major build products, which have not involved some distance shipping, but where possible use a local Artisan trade with access to great materials and choice. Think a little crazy and upcycle redundant but good materials. Support your local small nurseries, where the mark up on products may be much less. Again, speak to a dedicated trade specific to your needs, rather than going to a large shop with big overheads. It does not always fall in your fees favour, therefore consider the benefits and way up those against the costs.

Commercially many large design and build schemes have allowed for reduced end outcomes by cheapening the product brand and this has been a section of the driving down of building performance and site delivery standards.  This included the sad Grenfell disaster as identified in the Dame Judith Hackett report. In construction we now face the biggest drive for better changes than seen since the second world war, thus tough requirements and demands for demonstrating compliance is to become a standard requirement. The need to keep records and demonstrate both on site and in specification are a must under HSE/ BSR remit. It effects us all even to the single storey extension you build, so gear up and raise the profile for good quality materials, fit for purpose and the competent persons to do the work. If you are a self builder with limited skills employ advice through the likes of us at GES.

This is what drives good environmental choices and outcomes.

Our business core values

Granite Environmental Solutions, is just one part of a big picture. It is small new business with a big heart and massive aim, in supporting other businesses and organisations in achieving structured thinking towards environmental conditioning and decarbonising along with dealing with other caustic prebuild failures and poor practices. These can contaminate land and reduce wildlife and health too when developed inappropriatley. Granite Environmental Solutions has a manifesto and a core values, supported by codes of conduct and legal requirements. GES, want to encourage those who don't meet good working and ethical/ environmental codes in the built environment, to wise up and thus create additional financial success in the process of quality changes. Up the game, up the standards and ultimately up your eligibility to diversify and grow with science based technology in this fast changing market. GES only works with those who commit to our core values alongside their own quality assured standards of workmanship from concept awareness to site performance, to finalisation of artisan projects fit for the demands of the present and future needs. Presently we are local to Norfolk and its bordering counties.
